Gamificaton and Green Gaming has been the main theme of the training volunteers from the Green Sun Association have attended lately. The Erasmus+ financed Programme gathered youth workers from 10 countries to Guia de Isora, Tenerife (Canarian Islands) to learn about non-formal education techniques and environmental issues. Photos during the seminar are available on the Facebook page of the association.

Petr Kantor attended to the one week lasting training on behalf of the Green Sun Association, where shared knowledge and many motivating activities with youth workers from Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Latvia, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Greece and Albania. The seminar on Green Gaming was in fact a concise presentation of the latest techniques of non-formal education, based gamification, in order to enhance motivation, concentration, effort, and a range of values common to recreational activities in environmental setting. Bara and Carmine Rodi, Erasmus+ facilitators were in charge to demonstrate all the positive outcomes of gamificating in education, work and everyday activities, applying game-design thinking to non-game applications to make them more fun and engaging.

The one week long course involved also intercultural connection with locals and presentations held by the participants for introducing their home country. This time El Teide volcano was not one of the most important touristic destinations of the intercultural visit, but the attendants had the chance to get known with other unique geographical attractions, like the underwater world of the Atlantic, sunset at the Las Gigantes rocks, or the specific petrography, flora and fauna of the Masca Valley, rural paradise of the Teno Park. The 24 youth workers had also the occasion to invent their own games in teamwork, and these games were introduced to public on the Alternative Young Night held on the 11 th of October on the Cultural Centre Plaza in Guia de Isora, organized by the City Hall for all the youngsters from the region to demonstrate and facilitate alternative ways of recreation and party for them.

As it can be seen on the photos, all “greengamers” got engaged to the new methods in a very short time, learning was fun again, time flew away just as quickly as the change of the Canarian currents, as all the participants were “in the flow” constantly.
